Humber Sceptre

The Humber Sceptre is a 4-door midsize sedan, the Humber brought out to complement the Humber Hawk 1963.

Sceptre Mk I

The Sceptre I has a 1.6 liter four - cylinder inline engine with an output of 80 bhp (59 kW). It corresponds to the body and technology Hillman also manufactured by the Rootes Group Minx Series V, however, is better equipped and has a different grille. This is a good example of the so frequently encountered in the UK Badge engineering. The vehicle reached a top speed of 145 km / h

1965 received the Sceptre II, as well as his Hillman Minx Series VI counterpart, a new body with dual headlights and a new engine with 1.7 liter displacement and 85 hp ( 62.5 kW). The top speed was up to 152 km / h.

Hillman Super Minx 1967 has been replaced by modern styled vehicles of Rootes Arrow series. Basic version of this model range was the Hillman Hunter. The Sceptre III was a derivative of the Hunter, the technically and - visually corresponded to the base model, but again had a much better endowed - with marginal deviations. Externally to recognize was the Sceptre III on a wide, chrome grille, dual round headlights and a roof covered with vinyl. Inside imitation wood was used for the dashboard and the seats were upholstered with imitation leather. The engine now had 88 bhp (65 kW) and gave the vehicle a top speed of 158 km / h

Chrysler exported this version of the Rootes Arrow on some continental European markets, including Germany and Austria. Here, however, the car was marketed as Sunbeam Sceptre. This step represented a break with past policy of the company, as the Sunbeam brand so far for sport - was responsible offshoot of Group vehicles - and not for the luxurious; accordingly, the saloons of the Arrow- series were not sold in the UK market under the brand Sunbeam.

In 1976, the production of the Sceptre has been set. The basic model was further produced until 1979 when Chrysler Hunter and Hunter Talbot.
