Humberto Fernández Morán

Humberto Fernández Morán - ( born February 18, 1924 in Maracaibo, † March 17, 1999 in Stockholm) was a Venezuelan scientists.

He founded the Venezuelan Institute for Neurology and Brain Research ( IVNIC in Spanish), the predecessor of the current Institute for Scientific Research of Venezuela ( IVIC ). He studied at the University of Munich, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1944 his studies. He has contributed to the development of the electron microscope and introduced the concept of Kryoultramikrotomie. He developed the diamond scalpel. He was also active in the development of electronic cryomicroscopy.

In 1958 he held the post of Minister of Education ( Ministro de Educación ) in the government of President Marcos Pérez Jiménez for a short time.
