Humboldt Glacier

With a mouth width of over 100 kilometers, it is the widest glacier in the northern hemisphere. The Humboldt Glacier is fed from the Greenland ice sheet. Along with the more northerly Petermann glacier there is a catchment area of 121,000 km ², representing 10 % of the total area of the catchment areas of all Greenland glacier.

Like many other Greenland glaciers, the Humboldt glacier retreats. The end of summer 2009, - compared to 2008 - at the mouth of the ice decreased by 37 km ².
