Humphrey Tonkin

Richard Humphrey Tonkin ( born December 2, 1939 in Truro, UK) is Professor of English Language and Literature, specializing in the Renaissance and Edmund Spenser, also on language use and international languages. Tonkin is a citizen of Britain and the United States.

As a teenager Tonkin Esperanto has learned. In 1963 he founded the still existing youth magazine Kontakto and from 1969 to 1971 he was chairman of the World Federation Young Esperanto. From 1974 to 1980 and from 1986 to 1989 Tonkin was chairman of the Universal Esperanto Association ( Esperanto - Universala Asocio ). Tonkin has written numerous articles in and about Esperanto and translated Shakespeare's plays.
