Hunan Provincial Museum

The Hunan Provincial Museum (abbreviation :湖南省 博物馆, traditional characters :湖南省 博物馆; Pinyin:. Hunan bówùguǎn; engl Hunan Provincial Museum ) is located in the provincial capital Changsha. It is the largest and most important museum of Hunan Province, and belongs to the so-called 8 imposing museums of China outside of Beijing. The decisive factor for the expansion of its collection was the archaeological excavation of Mawangdui. With these findings, it is one of the representative collections of Chinese culture during the Han Dynasty.

A new expansion is led by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. Because of the construction work, the museum is expected to be closed by June 18, 2012 to 2015.
