Hundertwasser's Rainy Day

Action

The film follows artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser and presents his working methods and his artistic and personal views. The beginning shows Hundertwasser, which lies on an ice floe near his mill in the forest district in Vienna. The melt water flowing under the ice through and Hundertwasser explains that dressed him the water. He bought a ship three years ago, which he has dubbed rainy day and with whom he wants to pull into the water.

Hundertwasser sums up his career as a painter. At the beginning nobody wanted to take his pictures even as a gift, and later he received for his works a little money. The demand, however, increased, and thus the price of the images without having something could for it. Since the time the demand his production - he feels about 700 pictures as a rather narrow previous body of work - on rose, he proceeded to to finished print graphics, and increasingly in large numbers.

Hundertwasser's relationship with architecture is presented. He explains that for him, every man has three skins: Your own skin, clothing, and architecture. In architecture, he turns adamantly opposed to the straight line and the angle and prefers when buildings are formed of organic things, moss or mold. Since he can not implement their own architectural ideas in the stifling creativity Vienna, he lets them rise again in the art. Central themes in his works are the spiral, which he sees as the beginning of life, onion towers, fences and mouths. His images are created here as in a dream. Often he can, awakens after completion of an image, therefore no longer understand the meaning of subscribed in all particulars. Hundertwasser stresses the importance of color in his work and referred to a cloudy rainy day as his favorite: On these days he can work and appear only when it rains the colors of the surroundings. In the sunshine we only observe the contrasts of the environment, which is why he preferred the color- saturated images of the painters from the north to the contrasting color but poor images of the painters of the South.
