Hundertwasser Toilets

The toilet was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who lived in Kawakawa from 1973 until his death in 2000, in his typical style with curved lines, irregular ceramic tiles, built-in miniature sculptures, colored lenses and an undertaking included in the architecture tree. The toilet was opened in 1999. Functionally it is no different from other public conveniences. So is a side to the needs of women, of those of men.

The toilet is the main attraction of Kawakawa and the most photographed toilet in New Zealand. The number of photographed visitors exceeds that of those who use the facility as a toilet, by far.
