Hunsingo

The name refers to the " Gau of Hunze ". The Hunze is a river that flows to the Lauwers Sea, but after the artificial deepening and straightening finally called Reitdiep. Hunsigo was the first member of the Frisian Ommelander Union, capital is Winsum. The three Wadden Islands Rottumerplaat, Rottumeroog and Zuiderduintjes also include Hunsigo. Just like Fivelgo Hunsingo was originally a Frisian Gau. The district had four country district: the Marnsterdeel, the Halfambsterdeel, the Oostambtsterdeel and Middagland or Midgo. The Middagland had to be submitted later to the Westerkwartier. So it happened that Hunsigo finally consisted of only three quarters of the country.
