Hürlimann Brewery

The Hürlimann AG brewery was a Swiss brewery based in Zurich. The hallmark of Hürlimann was a white five-pointed star on a red background with white lettering " Hürlimann " below.

History

Hans Heinrich Hürlimann, a wealthy miller's son, created the eponymous brewery in 1836 in Field Creek in the community Hombrechtikon. His son Albert, who had learned the craft brewers in Bavaria, moved the brewery in 1866 in the then municipality Enge near Zurich. The local company premises, on the old farm to the stone table, on which today still remembers the Steinentischstrasse, possessed as opposed to field Bach a rail connection. 1867 was the new brewery will be put into operation, and thanks to a new ice maker Linde 's production could be greatly expanded, so that the Hürlimann Brewery 1880, the largest in Switzerland was already. Following the establishment of the Swiss beer cartel in 1935, the enormous competitive pressure on the beer market caused by strong. The beer cartel controlled the distribution channels and dictated the price of the beer in the restaurants and in retail trade. The regions of Switzerland were divided by the different beer brands virtually to each other. Each restaurant had a well-established supplier of mostly secured through long-term contracts its sales. Foreign beers for sale was banned and pulled strict penalties of beer cartel after delivery as boycotts. Foreign beers had no chance under these conditions and, thanks to import restrictions. Thus, the pressure rose in the mid- 1990s to the Swiss breweries to reduce through mergers or increase sales of beer costs.

After the Hürlimann AG was still 1984, the purchase and the closure of another major competitor in Zurich, the Zurich AG Löwenbräu brewery, managed the company was transformed into a holding company in 1989 and the family Hürlimann retired from service. In 1996 the merger with Feldschlosschen Holding, the largest competitor in the Swiss beer market. In 1997 the decommissioning of production followed the brewery premises in Zurich -Enge.

A specialty of the Hürlimann Brewery was the use of bottled water for the brewing process. In 1976 the company had encountered a deep borehole to a source that was exceptionally rich in minerals. The company sales in the sequence, a corresponding mineral water named Aqui.

The former company premises Hürlimann AG in Zurich -Enge was rebuilt and is marketed under the name " Hürlimann site ". Provided are apartments, a health spa, offices and a market. Among other things, the Internet company Google and the law firm Bär & Karrer in Zurich have moved their headquarters there.

The Hürlimann brand is now owned by the Feldschlösschen Beverages Ltd., which in turn belongs to the Danish company Carlsberg Breweries.
