Husni al-Barazi

Housni al - Barazi (Arabic: حسني البرازي; * 1895 in Hama, Ottoman Empire, † 1975 in Turkey ) was a Syrian nationalist politician who served as Prime Minister of Syria.

Housni al - Barazi was born in the city of Hama in a known land-owning family of Kurdish origin. He received his education in Constantinople Opel and got a doctorate from the Sorbonne.

During the French Mandate from 1928 he was a Member of Parliament in Syria, and from 1934 to 1936 Minister of Culture. From 1936 to 1938 he was the last governor of Alexandretta ( Iskandaroun ) before it became independent as the State Hatay. In April 1942, he was appointed Prime Minister of the Syrian Republic, but he was relieved by the French authorities of the Office in January 1943, and fled to Lebanon.
