Sir Charles Fox & Sons

Freeman Fox & Partners goes back to Sir Charles Fox, with his eldest son Douglas Fox the engineering firm founded in 1857 by Sir Charles Fox & Son, which after recording the second son of Francis as Sir Charles Fox & Sons primarily by a few years later, the planning were known of narrow gauge railways in southern Africa and in Canada, but also by expanding the Grosvenor Bridge ( Vicoria station Bridge ) in London, together with the complex access tracks.

Douglas Fox & Partners

After his father's death in 1874, the sons continued the office continued as Douglas Fox & Partners. The most significant project of this phase was the Mersey Tunnel in Liverpool, was knighted for Douglas Fox 1886.

Under the duly adopted name, the brothers were planning with their office among other things, the Liverpool Overhead Railway, the. Freeman Fox & Partners were also on various other areas worked, eg in the planning of power plants and highways, studies and plans for public transport in the UK, Hong Kong and Taiwan, various railway projects and not least in the construction of radio telescopes.

John Taylor & Co.

John Taylor & Co. was an engineering firm that had specialized in water supply and sewage systems. It goes back to John Taylor, who was at the same time working as you Charles Fox in London. They must have known each other since they have both presented at a meeting of contributions to the expansion of the Victoria Station Bridge 1867. In time, John Taylor had grown to a similar size as Freeman Fox and Partners.

Acer Consultants Limited

In both offices, we came to the conclusion that a pooling of different skills would improve market opportunities. Consequently, it began in 1987 so to merge the activities of the two agencies in a common enterprise under the new company Acer.

The company was acquired in 1993 along with another engineering firm of Welsh Water, the operating in Wales and parts of western England private water utilities, and summarized in 1996 under the new name Hyder Consulting.

Hyder Consulting

After a takeover by Western Power Distribution, a power company, the company was acquired by the partners in 2001 through a management buy -out and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2002.
