Hydroxylammonium nitrate is a chemical compound from the group of nitrates, and a salt of hydroxylamine.
Production and representation
Hydroxylammonium nitrate can be obtained by reaction of hydroxylammonium salts such as hydroxylammonium sulfate or hydroxylammonium chloride, nitrates such as barium nitrate, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate or calcium nitrate. It can also be obtained by electrosynthesis of nitric acid.
Properties
Hydroxyl ammonium nitrate is a solid with a monoclinic crystal structure. It decomposes on heating above 100 ° C explosively with water, oxygen, nitrogen and small amounts of nitric oxide produced. For this reason he is being investigated as single-component fuel for rockets and grenades. The technical product is brought into solution with water in the trade. It was also used as a reducing agent in the plutonium - uranium - plutonium re-extraction and separation.
