Perlastrild

The Tropfenastrilde ( Hypargos ) are a genus within the family of finches. At the genus includes two species, both of which occur in Africa.

Description

Tropfenastrilde reach a body length of from twelve to thirteen inches. Both types have on the body top a brownish plumage, the Red Tropfenastrild rather olive brown and the Perlastrild is reddish brown. The males of the two species differ by the color of reins, head, sides of the neck, throat, goiter area and upper chest. When Red Tropfenastrild these are crimson, the Perlastrild contrast brownish and paler. Both types have on the sides very close to each other standing drops stains that are at Perlastrild whitish pink and the Red Perlastrild white. They are formed by a respective spot on each of the two flags of a spring.

Dissemination and lifestyle

Both species are native to East Africa. The Red Tropfenastrild has the bigger market area and comes from southern Somalia through Kenya and Tanzania to the south of Mozambique and Rwanda and the East of Angola before. The distribution area of Perlastrild adjoins the Red Tropfenastrild. The two types of drawing also slightly different habitats. The Perlastrild missing, for example, in the more densely forested coastal areas of Mozambique, where the Red Tropfenastrild occurs. Both species occur in dense undergrowth, or bushes, where the Perlastrild drier habitats preferred as the Red Tropfenastrild.

Attitude

The Perlastrild is only very sporadically in the European bird trade. The Tropfenastrild, which was imported in 1902 by Carl Hagenbeck the first time in Germany, one from the 1950s to the regularly traded ornamental birds. They are kept relatively frequent because of the beauty of their plumage and their trusting, docile creatures.

  • Red Tropfenastrild ( Hypargos niveaguttatus )
