Hypsurus caryi is a fish of the family of the surf perch ( Embiotocidae ). He lives on the coast of the Eastern Pacific Ocean Mendocino, north of San Francisco to northern Baja California. The fish hold primarily at rock banks, at depths up to 40 meters to go temporarily in Kelpgebiete and in seagrass beds or can be found on sandy areas, but never in the surf zone. In the fall they occur in swarms. Hypsurus caryi is not a common species

Features

The fish are 30 cm long. They are very colorful animals that are orange and blue. The fins are usually orange. At the beginning of the soft-rayed part of the dorsal fin to the anal fin and at the end of the upper lip, they each have a dark spot. The pelvic fins are sometimes striped, the abdominal line is straight and rises in the anal fin straight up. The anal fin is small and located far behind.
