Hystero Contrast Sonography

The Hysterokontrastsalpingografie ( HKSG or English: HyCoSy abbreviated ), also referred to as Hysterokontrastsonografie, is a diagnostic procedure to check the fallopian tube on its permeability towards.

Importance

In almost half of all cases has an unfulfilled desire for children 's cause in the female sterility. Approximately one third of these cases in turn is based on the closure of one or both fallopian tubes, usually as a result of inflammation. Testing the continuity of the fallopian tube is within the sterility diagnosis of primary importance.

Procedure

Through the sheath, a catheter is inserted into the uterus. At the end of this catheter to place a small balloon that is filled with liquid after importation to prevent slipping back. When filling the balloon, the patient, the period can be comparable, feel a slight pull, which still can continue for some time even after the treatment. The balloon is used to prevent backflow of the contrast medium that is injected subsequently. This liquid contained in the small air bubbles is introduced into the uterus. The air bubbles reflect ultrasonic waves, so that it can be represented by transvaginal sonography, whether and how the solution flows through the tubes.

The used 1995-2011 contrast agent Echovist Bayer HealthCare is now no longer available, as the company has set for economic reasons, the production and worldwide distribution. It was a galactose that released small air bubbles. An approved alternative means for these purposes is since no longer available. As possible alternatives gelatin or saline solutions are used as part of the off- label use.
