Iamblichus (novelist)

Iamblichus (Greek Ἰάμβλιχος; * after 100 in Syria) was a Greek novelist of the second century.

Iamblichus was born in Syria and educated by a Babylonian slaves. Besides his native Aramaic, he learned Greek so well that he brought it to the rhetorician. He lived during the reign of the Arsacid king Sohaemus in Armenia.

Only about supplies are part of the Babyloniaka ( Βαβυλωνιακά " Babylonian stories " ), one written after extensive 165 Romans in 35 (or 39) books, including three novels to the lovers Sinonis and Rhodane. From the narrative motifs of the ancient Romans ample use is made: escape from a tyrant, confusion, suspended animation, etc. Interwoven references to secret teachings (Chaldeans ) and cults ( Aphrodite or Ishtar ) appear to contain no authentic information.
