Ian Stewart (racing driver)

Ian Macpherson Stewart ( born July 15, 1929 in Edinburgh, Scotland ) is a retired British racing driver.

Ian Stewart, not related to the brothers Jimmy and the three -time Formula 1 World Champion Jackie Stewart, began in 1951 to drive on the British island of automobile racing. For now, there was a private Jaguar XK 120 for use in national races with whom he went to the start especially in England.

Stewart was a founding member of the Scottish racing team Ecurie Ecosse, for which he drove from 1952 race. Among other things, he won in the same year the Jersey Road Race and the Wakefield Trophy on a Jaguar D -Type.

In 1953, he played on a Formula 2 Connaught Type A the Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone, which was part of the drivers' world championship in 1953. After an ignition defect, however, he had to retire from the race. Stewart also took part in some Grands Prix, the results did not address in the championship standings. Also in 1953 he managed, along with his teammate Roy Salvadori, this time on a Jaguar C -Type, to take second place in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he came up with partner Peter Whitehead finished fourth.

Stewart's racing career ended in 1954 at the 1000 -kilometer race at the Autódromo Oscar Alfredo Gálvez in Buenos Aires. After a serious accident in the race and the subsequent long recovery time, influenced by his marriage in the same year, Stewart center withdrew the season of racing in order to operate in Perth and Kinross, where he still lives agricultural work.
