Iancu Dumitrescu

Iancu Dumitrescu ( born July 15, 1944 in Sibiu) is a Romanian composer.

Dumitrescu was the son of mathematician and philosopher Maria Dumitrescu Gheorghe T. Dumitrescu. His father was arrested in 1949 for political reasons and came only after Stalin's death again. From 1964 to 1969 studied at the Conservatory Dumitrescu Ciprian Porumbescu. Since the mid- 1960s he worked as a music critic, among other things, for the magazine of the Romanian Composers Union Luceafarul as well as for broadcasting. In 1976 he founded the Ensemble Hyperion, which occupies since a significant place in the Romanian contemporary music and he runs with his wife Ana -Maria Avram.

From 1978 he was a pupil of Sergiu Celibidache in Munich. Here he also got to know of Edmund Husserl 's phenomenology, which he cites as a philosophical basis of his experimental methods of composition.
