Geology

The Iberg is from the Givetian and Frasnian ( Devonian) -derived coral reef atoll as a middle of the ocean, presumably on a volcano base, was born. The reef was built mainly of corals and stromatoporoids. Later, on the border of the Frasnian Famennian to these reef-building organisms died out and reef growth was omitted. During the Famennian and Lower Carboniferous emerged during the columns that were filled with crinoids, brachiopods and goniatites - limestones. The mountain is composed entirely of limestone, so that by the karstification numerous caves ( including the Isenberg limestone cave ) emerged.

On the northwest side of the Iberges is located in the transition region to the Winterberg and Heinrichsberg ( 473.6 m), a limestone quarry and a lime plant ( potash Winterberg).

Observation tower, restaurant and hiking

On the southwest spur of the Iberg are the Isenberg Albert Tower ( 555 m) and a tourist restaurant. The tower is included in the system of stamp locations of the Harz hiking pin. Passes the Harz cottage gate. Located in the lower part of the south-western hillside picnic area Isenberg cafe, also called the " balcony bath ground ", was on 28 February 2000 victims of wanton arson and falls rapidly since then.
