Icom Incorporated

ICOM is a Japanese company that builds and develops radios for amateur radio, marine radio and aeronautical radio.

Origins

The company's origins date back to the year 1954 by the Japanese Tokuzo Inoue ( Amateur Radio Callsign: JA3FA ) based firm Inoue Electronic.

Their company name was changed in 1964, the company name (company) is since the ICOM ( Inoue COMmunications ).

Expansion

In 1976, the Düsseldorf branch was founded as the first foreign branch. The subsidiary in the U.S., however, was only founded in 1979. Icom produces and sells amateur radio, marine, aeronautical and commercial radios. To this end, a range of communication receivers is also for commercial use. Operating radio range is complemented by equipment for bad radio. Since 2002, ICOM produces the so-called D-STAR system. D -STAR is a proprietary method of digital information transmission in amateur radio.

As of 2008, a similar method is also brought to the operating radio on the market, after the NXDN standard, marketed under the name of Icom IDAS.

ICOM stands next to Yaesu Musen, Alinco, Kenwood, inter alia, the price and quality at the forefront of Japanese amateur radio equipment manufacturers.
