The Gold Yellow Magerrasen dwarf tensioner ( Aureolaria idaea ), and Gold Yellow Gold Yellow Ampferspanner or called small tensioner, is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the tensioner ( Geometridae ).

Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the butterfly is 14 to 19 mm in females and 16 to 20 mm in males. The ground color of the wings is mostly bright golden yellow. On the fore wings are three on the hind wings two non- jagged, sharply angled, black-brown transverse lines. Due to the three transverse lines, the species was formerly known as Acidalia trilineata. The Saumrand stands out dark, the fringes are blackish.

Caterpillar, and chrysalis

The caterpillar is slender, of a grayish brown color and shows a double dark brown dorsal line.

The piston-like doll is yellowish, the cremaster is flat and fitted with six hooks bristles.

Similar Species

Idaea luteolaria, idaea flaveolaria and Cleta filacearia all differ from Gold Yellow poor grass - dwarf tensioner by the less pronounced yellowing and mostly indistinct transverse lines.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The distribution of the gold Yellow poor grass - dwarf tensioner extends with some gaps from Spain and France through Central Europe to the Balkans and ranges in the east to Siberia. The distribution area extends from Turkey to Central Asia. In the Central Alps, it rises up to 1500 meters, in the Asian mountain ranges up to 2400 meters. The species prefers warm, dry slopes, grass heaths, bushy Ödländereien and skimmed lawns.

Way of life

The moths fly mainly in June and July, and sometimes appears in August and September, a second generation. They are predominantly diurnal, but only fly short distances when disturbed from vegetation. At night they visit and artificial light sources. As food plants of the polyphagous caterpillars are called: sorrel ( Rumex ), sainfoin ( Onobrychis ), Colorful Kronwicke ( Securigera varia) and hedges Vetch (Vicia dumetorum ). The caterpillars overwinter.

The Gold Yellow Magerrasen dwarf tensioner is out on the red list of endangered species in Category 2 ( high risk ).
