Idaho (Band)

Idaho is an American indie rock band from Los Angeles. It applies in addition to Low, Codeine and the Red House Painters as a pioneer of the subgenres Slowcore. The band released seven albums to date as well as several EPs and singles.

History

Idaho was founded by Jeff Martin and John K. Berry 1992 as a duo. In December 1992, they got a record deal by Caroline Records and released the 1993 EP The Palms and the debut album Year After Year. For the 1996 released album Three Sheets To The Wind and drummer Mark Lewis multi-instrumentalist Dan Seta climbed together with bassist Terry Borden. Already in the early days they were often compared to bands like American Music Club, Low, or the Red House Painters, to which there were textual and musical similarities. Because of their often very slow due to various music and tours with like-minded artists Idaho were quickly called Slowcore band, as their pioneers, they are still seen today.

Over the years, Idaho became the solo project of singer-songwriter Jeff Martin, who recorded the last Idaho albums for the most part alone. Berry remained Idaho, for example, but connected as a producer. For album Alas 1998 Melissa Auf der Maur contributed some vocals on pieces. The band's music was based initially mainly on Martins and Berry four-stringed tenor guitars, most recently, increasingly, piano is used. The sound is the biggest part kept quiet until introspective, but occasional outbreaks provide momentum. On the last published The Lone Gunman, there was a trend towards more experimental structures, which were sometimes referred to as a mixture of Radiohead's Kid A with Frédéric Chopin.
