Idaho City is a city and the county seat of Boise County in the U.S. state of Idaho. At the time of the Gold Rush in the 1860s it was the largest city in the northwestern United States.

Geography

The place is located about 58 km (36 mi) northeast of the capital on the Boise State Route 21, at the Ponderosa Scenic Byway. The site covers an area of ​​1.8 km ² ( 0.7 mi ²).

History

The weddings of the gold rush in the 1860s, there were up to 20 000 people, so Idaho City at that time was the largest city in the North West of the United States. Among other things, was established here back in 1863 with the building of St. Joseph's Church, the first Catholic parish Idaho.

Likewise Idaho City holds an important position in the history of the Freemasons. Here, the first Masonic lodge of Idaho was founded in 1867. Meanwhile, the lodge moved to Boise.
