Idan Raichel

Idan Raichel ( Hebrew: עידן רייכל, IPA: [ ʔidan ʁaiχel ]; born September 12, 1977 in Kfar Saba, Israel) is an Israeli writer, composer and musician. He is best known for the Idan Raichel Project ( Hebrew: הפרוייקט של עידן רייכל ), merges the electronic music with traditional Hebrew texts as well as Middle Eastern and Ethiopian music. Before the start of the project Raichel was keyboardist and worked with artists such as Ivri Lider.

Biography

With nine years Idan Raichel began to play the accordion. He let his hair grow long, played gypsy music and tango. At school he learned to play jazz piano.

Raichel served in the Israeli armed forces. After his military service, Raichel consultant was in a boarding school for immigrants, which was attended by many young Ethiopian Jews. Raichel began to visit Ethiopian bars and clubs in Tel Aviv. In April 2007 he traveled with Save A Child 's Heart to Rwanda and Ethiopia.

In January 2014 Raichel sparked by statements to the practice of torture in Israel controversial reactions. Raichel also stated that becoming involved with his musical life for the State of Israel.

Music style

The style Raichel is dominated by the Middle East, but also based on Latin and African music. Most of his songs are in Hebrew, some are also in Amharic. The songs are sung by both male as well as female voices. The traditional melodies are combined with modern music.
