IEEE Jun-ichi Nishizawa Medal

In 2002, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers ( IEEE) a new tribute to their existing program of honors. Since 2004, then a year or more candidates awarded a medal on behalf of Jun- ichi Nishizawa. This is considered as the father of Japanese microelectronics. Nishizawa was a professor, director of two research institutes and the 17th President of Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He has contributed to important innovations for components of the territories Optical communications and semiconductors, such as laser and PIN diodes and Static Induktionsthyristoren for power systems.

This medal is awarded annually to members of the IEEE who are active in the fields of Material and Device Technology.
