IFEX (organization)

International Freedom of Expression eXchange ( IFEX ) is a global network of around 80 non-governmental organizations committed to freedom of expression. The network was founded in 1992 in Montreal, Canada.

IFEX exchanges on the Internet information and performs actions and campaigns on issues such as press freedom, Internet censorship, freedom of information laws, defamation and insult laws, media concentration and attacks against journalists, writers, human rights defenders and netizens.

The network consists of a broad coalition of organizations working for the protection of journalists and media staff, academics, photographers and cameramen, writers, cyber-dissidents, publishers, cartoonists, outdoor radio stations and libraries. Members include Human Rights Watch, Reporters Without Borders, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, the Association mondiale des radiodiffuseurs communautaires and PEN

IFEX provides for many intergovernmental organizations observe the freedom of expression, information. These include UNESCO, the African Commission of Human Rights and the rights of peoples, the Euro Europe, the European Union, the UNHCHR, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.
