Igor Mel'čuk

Igor Alexandrovich Meltschuk (Russian Игорь Александрович Мельчук, scientific transliteration Igor Aleksandrovich Melčuk; born October 18, 1932 in Odessa ) is a Russian- Canadian linguist. He is professor emeritus at the University of Montreal Department in " Linguistics and Translation".

Meltschuk visited the Philogische Faculty of MGU. Since 1956 he worked at the Institute of Linguistics of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Following an open letter in support of the dissident Andrei Sakharov and Sergei Kovalev to the New York Times, which appeared there on 25 January 1976 Meltschuk was dismissed. As a result, he emigrated in 1976 from the Soviet Union. Since 1977 he lives and works in Canada.

Meltschuk is creator of meaning - text model and author of works on the morphology, syntax and other fields of linguistics.
