Iisys

The Institute for Information Systems ( iisys ) is an in- Institute of the University of Hof. It was founded in July 2010. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new building, which will be completed in the summer of 2012, took place on October 22, 2010. Currently working at the Institute 27 employees.

The Institute represents the central research institute of computer science at the college farm and consists of the four research groups

  • Analytical Information Systems,
  • Information management,
  • Multimedia information systems,
  • System integration.

The Institute is funded by the Free State of Bavaria, Upper Franconia Foundation and the European Union. Focuses on applied research and knowledge transfer to industry. iisys sees its main task is to review the results of international research on applicability to adapt if necessary, and to provide economy and society. In this respect, iisys understood as a bridge between research and industry.

Iisys divided into the following areas:

  • Management: It supports the technology and application in the acquisition and implementation of projects. Its most important task is to ensure long-term funding for the Institute.
  • Area of technology: It concentrates in various research groups on methods of data management and the data analysis and the development and integration of networked information systems in business processes. This prototypical solutions for applications based on new algorithms and methods are developed. The aim of this technology projects is the validation and optimization of these algorithms and methods so that they can be used for real applications in the enterprise. The technology sector is working in collaboration with external research institutions. The institute intends the participation of regional companies to results of international research and development in the field of information systems.
  • Application: It is mainly focused on services. Together with IT companies products are developed, which have primarily the needs of the SME sector in focus. It is hoped that a multiplier effect of IT companies through which the regional companies can participate in the development of the Institute.

Of national importance in particular are the following projects:

  • Smart Grid Solar: This project serves as a pilot study for the collection and coordination of the total energy supply of a region with the aim of a smart grid. It is carried out in Upper Franconia. Project partners are next iisys especially the University of Erlangen, many utilities and cities yard and Arzberg. The project is funded by the Free State of Bavaria.
  • Migraine Radar ( iisys ): Here the connection between weather changes and the frequent occurrence of migraine attacks is examined. The project was the winner of the contest " What makes you healthy? " the BMBF. Since June 2011 Apps migraine attacks are recorded nationwide through a web form and with the help of your smartphone. The data is then linked to weather data, which represents the German weather service. Until the end of July 2012, more than 10,000 reports of migraine and headache attacks via the web form and the smartphone apps could be collected.

The iisys also hosts projects that serve to direct economic development.

  • Your path to the cloud: As part of the European Social Fund (ESF ) funded project provides the iisys assistance for software producers who want to offer their own software as a cloud service and want to use the cloud services for SMEs.
