Il Silenzio (song)

Il Silenzio ( " Silence ") is the title of a trumpet player Nini Rosso Instrumental Hits of 1965, which is one of the best-selling instrumental recordings worldwide.

Genesis

Raffaele Celeste Rosso, Nini Rosso called, was one of the best jazz trumpeters in Italy, which with an instrumental ballad just celebrated his biggest success. Il Silenzio is a variation of the military used trumpet piece The Last Post (see: taps). This was written in July 1862 by Union General Daniel Adams Butterfield and used by his staff current Peter Oliver Willcox Norton as a signal for the night. Due to the origination date of the copyright was expired in 1965 ( "public domain" ) so that it was free for edits. As a composer orchestra leader Willy Guglielmo Brezza and Nini Rosso are specified, the easy abwandelten the original and variation.

Origin

The melody enjoys a high international reputation, because it is played daily in the U.S. at 17:00 clock on every military base. This also applies worldwide because Taps or the Last Post is played at military tattoo or mourning occasions. The word tap is closely related to tattoo, which was borrowed from the Dutch word taptoe. This in turn is derived from the Dutch phrase " Doe den tap toe ", " turning the tap on ." However, the Dutch Taptoesignaal, which is now used for Anniversaries, is not the same tune as the Last Post. Neither Last Post Taptoesignaal still may be confused with " Taps", which although has the same function, but a different tune and having different origins.

Success

The trumpet solo with choir and narration was initially released in Italy on the record label Sprint (A # 5550 ) in December 1964. The single sold over 750,000 copies in Italy and took from May 1965 for 6 weeks the first rank of Italian charts. In May 1965, Hansa, recording decided as Il Silenzio ( Abschiedsmelodie ) on the German market to bring (# 18 316 ). Here, the success was even greater. She won for almost 3 months ( from July 3 to September 18, 1965) # 1 on the charts, selling 1.6 million copies and achieved the biggest sales of the company founded only in November 1964 Hansa label. Overall, the single in Germany stayed 30 weeks in the Top 10 and 42 weeks in the Top 50 in Austria, Switzerland and Australia also the peak was reached. Worldwide an estimated 5 million records were sold by December 1967, a total is now assumed of 10 million records. Il Silenzio was conferred in Hamburg in September 1965, the first gold record of the common market.

Narration

Il Silenzio is an instrumental recording, but is otherwise used in a vocal instrumental parts for center section used here for a short narration, the Nini Rosso took over.

Il Silenzio begins with the short modified trumpet sequence Taps, which is usually played at funerals. It is therefore likely that the issue raised in the brief narration separation refers to the death of the beloved person.
