Ilhéu dos Pássaros

The Ilhéu dos Pássaros ( Creole: Djeu ) is a small uninhabited island of Ilhas do Barlavento of Cape Verde. It is located about a kilometer from the nearest point of land to the coast of the island of São Vicente and two kilometers off the port of Mindelo.

Geography

The island is located approximately at coordinates 16.9097 ° N and 25.0113 ° W between the Cape Verde Islands, São Vicente and Santo Antão. Djeu, as the island is called in Creole, is a lava dome. The bay of Mindelo is a former Caldeira, which has gone down; the rock island marks the edge of the old crater.

The Ilhéu dos Pássaros has an area of ​​about 0.025 square kilometers, the highest point is 40 m. There is no water and only a sparse grass cover. At the highest point is a lighthouse, showing the way to the port of Mindelo.
