Ilie G. Murgulescu

Murgulescu Ilie ( born January 27, 1902 in Bucharest, † 28 October 1991) was a Romanian physical chemist, writer and communist politician. He was president of the Romanian Academy (1960-1963) and Minister of Culture (1953-1956 and 1960-1963 ). He founded the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Romanian Academy.

He wrote his doctoral thesis in the field of photochemistry under Fritz Weigert in Leipzig as a consultant and examined the properties of molten salts. He was an honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and has written a seven-volume textbook series called Introducere described in Chimia fizică (Introduction to Physical Chemistry ), which was printed 1976-1984.

His son supported the Hungarian revolution in 1956.
