Ilyas Shurpayev

Ilyas Imranowitsch Schurpajew (Russian Ильяс Имранович Шурпаев; born July 25, 1975 in Makhachkala, Dagestan, † March 21, 2008 in Moscow) was a Russian- Dagestani journalist.

Ilyas Schurpajew studied at the Dagestan State University in Makhachkala Germanic and Romance languages ​​. After his studies reported mainly from the Russian republic of Dagestan in the North Caucasus and Abkhazia. He became known as a reporter on national television Perwy channel (first channel) with reports of focal points in the Caucasus with some critical representations of the activities of local authorities.

21 March 2008 Schurpajew was stabbed in his apartment and strangled with a belt. Just hours before his death he had the deposition of his column by the Dagestani newspaper Nastojaschtscheje Vremya ( " Current time " ) and inclusion in a "black list" at the newspaper undesirable journalists commented on his blog with the sentence: "Now I am a dissident ". The existence of such blacklisting was denied by the chief editor of the newspaper.

On 29 March 2008, three of the murder suspect Tajik nationals were arrested in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe. Two of them were found on 30 July 2008 Tajikistan's Supreme Court convicted and sentenced to prison terms ranging from every 21 years. A connection with the journalistic activity, the Court not fixed; there had been a robbery and murder. The case was heard in Tajikistan, since according to the laws thereof extradition of Tajik nationals is not permitted.

Schurpajew was married and had a five year old daughter.
