Impact (miniseries)

Load Impact - The impact is a two-part television film directed by Michael Rohl, which was produced in 2008 in the U.S., Canada and Germany. The German Original Air Date on 13 and 14 May 2009 Sat.1.

Action

An asteroid with a diameter of about 20 km, which was obscured by the biggest meteor shower of the last 10,000 years, collides with the moon. Parts of the asteroid and the moon break through the Earth's atmosphere and hit all over the world scattered. Initially, the damage is still minimal, but the lunar surface has significant damage on. Furthermore, the Moon was thrown out of its orbit and is approaching Earth at about 30,000 km of. First there are several reasons, caused by the approach of the Moon as perturbed telephone signals, power fluctuations and radio interference, but later raise - caused by electrical charges - cars, people and trains from. However, scientists from Germany, Canada and the United States have for the time being no explanation. As the impact of the approach of the moon in Europe subside, gets the team of scientists from the U.S., the news that the moon is steadily approaching Earth and collide with it in 39 days and they will destroy.

Publications

The first broadcast was in two parts on 13 and 14 May 2009 at Sat.1, the product marketed by Sony Pictures Entertainment DVD was released on May 15, 2009.

Physical impossibilities

In the film, the laws of physics are jumbled wild.

It is spoken by a fragment of a brown dwarf, which hits the moon and causing the interference. Brown dwarfs are declared extinct suns, but are in reality sun-like objects whose mass but not quite enough to initiate nuclear fusion. In addition, a fragment of a brown dwarf would in this order is not sufficient to change the mass of the moon, so considerably.

However, when a fragment of a black or a white dwarf would collide with the moon, some shown in the film scenes could seem plausible to the layman; in particular, the strong electromagnetic phenomena would then have an explanation, as well as the high density of the object. However, the high density results in turn from the high mass of the object, which can degenerate matter. But since it is only a fragment, the mass may not be sufficient to maintain the material in the degenerate state. In brown dwarfs, matter is non-degenerate, so that there would be no explanation for the high density here.

The diameter of the object is of the order of an entire white dwarf. Its mass, however, would disrupt the Earth's orbit term.

There are many other inconsistencies. So there is talk of shielding of gravity. Gravity can be but in contrast to the other interactions on the current state of science does not shield.

Reviews

" Experienced ( TV ) mixture of science fiction and disaster movie with the usual requirements of both genres and emphasizes menschelnden subplots. "
