ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival

Pulse dance is a Viennese dance and performance festival that takes place since 1984 and is now regarded as the largest European dance festival for contemporary dance.

The festival will be held in the months of July and August and lasts up to five weeks. In addition to the dance performances from different countries dance workshops for those interested in are offered. The main venues include the Burgtheater, the sample stage in the arsenal and the Schauspielhaus in Porzellangasse. Meanwhile, more than 40 productions are held annually in 10 venues and about 80 lecturers deal in 160 workshops with 3,000 students.

The history of the dance festival

The first " International Dance Weeks ," as the festival was formerly called, were organized in 1984 on the initiative of the cultural manager Karl Regensburger and Ismael Ivo choreographers on the enamel. At that time, the event was primarily a workshop festival character. Four years after the founding year, 1988, was extended to the performance festival for the first time and proclaimed as pulse dance festival. Were shown, among others, works by Wim Vandekeybus, Marie Chouinard and Mark Tompkins, who to this day are faithful companions the festival. 1996 further instigated the project danceWEB Europe, a network of European dance institute into being, the young artist support and assistance.
