Imre Frivaldszky

He was from 1822 to 1851 director of the Hungarian National Museum. From Frivald described previously unknown or unclassified plants of the Balkans and Turkey. As an entomologist he dealt with butterflies and beetles. He is the father of the zoologists János Frivaldszky.

In the years 1833-1845 he organized and financed four expeditions to the Balkan peninsula, but even not participate in it. His assistants have brought botanical and zoological collections to Hungary. In 1835 he won the African Violet found in the Balkan Mountains of Bulgaria Haberlea rhodopensis described for the first time.
