Imre König

Imre King ( born September 2, 1901 in Gyula, Hungary, † 1992 in Santa Monica, California ) was a strong multinational chess player in the 1920s and 1930s. He played international tournaments as a Yugoslav, British and Americans.

King was born in Hungary. After World War II he emigrated to Yugoslavia, and took thence to the Yugoslav citizenship. In 1922, he won the championship of Yugoslavia. He also represented the country at the Chess Olympiads 1931 ( Prague) and 1935 (Warsaw).

In 1938 he emigrated to England in 1949 he became a British citizen. 1948/49, he finished in second place behind Hastings Rossolimo. 1951 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master.

In 1953 he moved to the United States.

King has published several articles in various chess magazines and wrote several books about Chess from Morphy to Botvinnik. A Century of Chess Evolution ( New York 1977, ISBN 0-486-23503-3 ).
