Imre Szekeres

Imre Szekeres ( born September 9, 1950 in Szolnok ) is a Hungarian politician of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP ) and was until May 2010 Minister of Defence of the Republic of Hungary.

Life and education

Szekeres initially grew in Jászapáti, where his parents had already moved a few months after his birth out on. There also began his schooling. He continued his education in Kazincbarcika 1969 and made his final with a qualification in the chemical industry. In Imre Szekeres Veszprém studied at the " Veszprém University of Chemical Engineering". He graduated in 1974 as an engineer.

Szekeres is married and father of two children since 1976.

Political career

During his studies Szekeres began to be politically active in the Communist Youth League at the University. From 1986 to 1990 Imre Szekeres was the deputy chairman of the City Council of Veszprém. Szekeres is a founding member of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP ) and he was from 1990 to 1994 the Executive Vice Chairman. Between 1994 and 1998 he was the parliamentary leader of his party and he is again vice chairman of MSZP since 2004. In the period from 2002 to 2004, Defence Minister Imre Szekeres later was State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary. Between June 2006 and May 2010, he was the Minister of Defence of Hungary.
