Inchcape plc

Inchcape is a British company based in London. The company operates as a dealer and importer in the automotive industry.

History

1847 established William MacKinnon and Robert MacKenzie, together with MacAllister Hall, the trading company MacKinnon MacKenzie Company ( MMC) with headquarters in Calcutta. 1862, the company was listed under the name of British India Steam Navigation Company on the London Stock Exchange. In the following decades, various companies were acquired and formed from a number of bought-in testing and certification company, the Inchcape Testing Services.

In the 1990s focused on increasingly the business on the import and sale of motor vehicles. Major trading partners was the Japanese company Toyota. The Department of Inchcape Testing Services was acquired in 1996 by the Investment Company Charterhouse Development Capital and renamed Intertek Testing Services.
