Indaiatuba is an inland city of the Brazilian state of São Paulo, with 205 808 inhabitants ( 2011).

The town takes its name from Indaiá. In the language of the indigenous people ( Tupi- Guarani ) Region Indaiá refers to the palm Attalea dubia. The word tuba suggests in this language that the Attalea dubia is very common in this place.

Location

The city is located at 47 ° 13 ' West and 23 ° 05' South, in the RMC ( Região Metropolitana de Campinas ) at a distance of 40 kilometers to Campinas and 90 kilometers from the city of São Paulo. The municipality covers a territory of 311 km ².

Economy

In the city's large automotive companies, such as Toyota, General Motors and Honda have manufacturing facilities. In addition there are offices of other international companies, such as Unilever and Sony -Ericsson.

Culture and sights

The Parque Ecological ( German: Ecological Park ) offers cycling and hiking trails an integrated theme park ( Parque Temático ). Furthermore, there are in the city, a railway museum which features alongside a locomotive from the 19th century, a model railway H0.
