Independencia District, Huaraz

Independencia is one of 12 districts of the province Huaraz and is located in the Ancash region in Peru. Geographically Huaraz has grown together with Independencia to agglomerate Huaraz. Only the Río Quilcay separates the two cities from each other. Independencia has been independent since 1992 and has its own management. Mayor Gregorio is currently Emiliano Mezarina Paredes. According to the 2005 census, Independencia has 61 205 inhabitants, and is the most densely populated district of Huaraz.
