Indicator (Latin indicare, show ') may refer to:

  • Generally colloquially a reference to a specific situation or for an event

Natural Sciences:

  • The mathematical result of an indicator or characteristic function, see Characteristic Function (mathematics)
  • Indicator (technology), a displaying device such as a meter, but simple; historical: pressure gauge
  • Indicator (Chemistry), a means for monitoring a chemical reaction or condition
  • Indicator (Medicine), a substance which indicates by a visible or measurable change in an operation state, or
  • Bioindicator for a plant or animal species whose presence can indicate certain environmental conditions
  • Environmental indicator in the environmental sciences, the quantification of complex or poorly directly measurable facts

Humanities:

  • Indicator (economics), a measure of economic development or economic situations
  • Briefcases indicator, a humorous attempt from the filling state of the briefcase by Alan Greenspan to close already upon its publication to the relevant U.S. Federal Reserve meeting on the subsequent decisions.
  • Indicator ( Social Sciences), a limited sample from a set of empirically testable facts
  • Social indicators, measuring instruments of the social sciences, with those conditions in a society are determined quantitatively
  • Indicator (linguistics), a linguistic expression whose meaning depends on the context of an utterance
