Ingredient

The food labeling regulation requires an ingredient list ( official term: the list of ingredients ) for almost all prepackaged ago. The obligation to provide a list of ingredients exists in the German food law since 26 December 1983. A list of ingredients is a list of substances that have been added to a food for its production. It lists the ingredients in descending order of their addition amount. For ingredients that are highlighted in the description of the product ( eg, " with chicken " ), is at the particular ingredient in addition to the proportion in percent of the total mass (see also Quid rule). Supplements such as anti-caking agents, " Tools" such as anti-foaming agents or certain ingredients of a partial ingredient need not be indicated.

Food additives, such as dyes, preservatives, emulsifiers, etc. can be listed by their abbreviation, the so-called E- numbers.

For spice and herb blends, there are exceptions to this rule: Under a percentage of two percent of ingredients must not be specified. This situation is unsatisfactory for people with allergies safe. However, this does not apply to allergy-causing substances, such as nuts. Even if this could be present only in traces, a note on this product must be installed.
