Ingvar Pettersson

Ingvar Albin Henrik Pettersson ( born January 19, 1926 in Rådmansö; † 2 July 1996 Jädraås ) was a Swedish athlete who on the 50 - kilometer distance was an international success in the 1960s as a walker.

1963 Pettersson won his first of four consecutive Swedish championship titles in the 50- km Walk. In the same year he finished second at the Nordic Championships in Fredrikstad and third in the World Cup in Varese.

The most significant success of his career, he celebrated at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964. He won in a time of 4:14:17,4 hours bronze medal on the 50 - kilometer distance behind the Italian Abdon Pamich ( 4:11:12,4 h ) and the British Paul Nihill ( 4:14:31, 2 h). 1965 Pettersson won over the same distance at the Nordic Championships in Örebro.

Ingvar Pettersson was 1.74 m tall and had a competition weight of 64 kg. He started for the Stockholm Gångklubb.
