The Insar (Russian Инсар, ersjan. Инесаро, moksch. Инзара ) is a river in the Russian Republic of Mordovia. He is a 168 km long left tributary of the Alatyr. Its catchment area covers 3860 km ².

The Insar rises near the village Alexandrovka in Rajon Insar. From there it flows in an easterly direction through some villages, to Novaya Murawjowka opens a Kartlei the left. The Insar continues to flow into the Rajon Rusajewka, passed several villages and then flows through the city Rusajewka where the river Pischlja opens from the left. Shortly before Saransk, the capital of Mordovia, rivers flow Akschenas and Karnai from right, in the city Tawla also opens from the right. From Saransk, the river runs in a northerly direction. In the further course it flows through the Rajons Ljambir where it receives the Ljambirka, and Romodanowo where it receives its major tributary Amorda, Bolshaya Atma and Ladka below the urban-type settlement Romodanowo before it opens in Rajon Itschalki southeast of the settlement Smolny in the Alatyr.
