Instance dungeon

An instance is a temporary copy of a dungeon for a single player or group a certain number of players in a Massively Multiplayer Online Role- Playing Game ( MMORPG).

One hand, by the use of instances the amount of data which is transmitted to each client, is minimized. Various a dungeon instances can even be dynamically distributed to different servers. On the other hand, ensures that sufficient prey ( loot ) for all participating players available.

Another form of instantiation in MMORPGs represent areas that can be accessed by a set number of players. If this set number is reached, the server opens another instance, can enter the additional players. This form of instantiation is called Layer.

A well-known example of instances as closed areas for groups are raid instances in World of Warcraft. An example of instanced areas that can be accessed by a specific number of players, represent the districts of the towns in the game Guild Wars dar.

Instances often have so-called lockout timer. These are usually triggered when entering the instance or by defeating a boss of the instance and prevent for some time that the players involved can enter this zone again.
