EURECOM is both a university for master and diploma students as well as a research facility for telecommunications and multimedia in the technology park Sophia Antipolis, Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur, Southern France. At present ( 2008) are about 160 students and 60 PhDs registered. It was founded in 1991 together national of the École supérieure for Telecommunications ( Telecom ParisTech ) and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne ( EPFL). Since then, several other European universities, the Politecnico di Torino have connected the Helsinki University of Technology and the Technical University of Munich, and some have combined to study programs or exchange stays.

The strong bond with industrial partners such as France Telecom, Thales and Cisco, combined with a high degree of internationality is above all foreign professionals of interest. Therefore, almost all lectures will be held there in English in one of the few universities in France. The focus of the research area is clearly on the side of communication technologies, but there are also some other departments, such as audio and image processing.

The Institute is involved in many national and European research programs and registered at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique as a research institute for communication systems.
