Institute for Bible Translation

The Institute was founded in Stockholm in 1973, now based in Moscow for Bible Translation ( Russian: Институт перевода Библии ) translated, published and distributes the Bible or extracts from it in about 130 languages ​​of the non-Slavic ethnic groups in the Commonwealth of Independent States, including the Russian Federation. It has set itself the goal of creating faithful translations for the religiously and culturally diverse nations of the CIS.

In Finland, the Institute began its work for Bible Translation ( IBT ) in 1983. The Helsinki office IBT coordinates the translation work in the Finno - Finnish (or Finno -Ugric ) languages.

In Russia, the Institute for Bible Translation began its work ( IBT ) in 1990. Since 1995, Russia / CIS is IBT logged in Moscow. The staff belonging to various Christian denominations. IBT Russia / CIS is a nonprofit corporation that is supported by contributions from individuals, corporate sponsors and foundations.

The Moscow office of the IBT coordinates the work of about 60 teams of translators, whose members live partly in other areas or other countries. IBT is a member of the Forum of Bible Agencies International. Some translation projects, the Institute is working with other international agencies such as the Bible, United Bible Societies, Wycliffe / SIL and the Pioneer Bible Translators. It operates closely with churches and religious organizations of all Christian denominations, national Bible societies, academic institutions and state agencies.

Until now, the IBT has the Bible excerpts translated into about 70 languages ​​, among the publications are 3 complete Bibles and 26 copies of the New Testament. A Children's Bible was published in 36 languages.
