Institute for High Energy Physics

The Institute of High Energy Physics (Russian Институт физики высоких энергий ), short IHEP, is a Russian Research Institute for High Energy Physics in Protwino, some 130 kilometers south of the capital Moscow. It was founded in 1965 and houses since 1967, the most powerful proton accelerator in Russia. The first year was the U -70 synchrotron, the strongest in the world.

Head of the Institute is Nikolai Tyurin.

Since it is 15 km from Serpukhov it was often called abroad shortly after Serpukhov ( Serpukhov ).
