Insubres

The Insubres were a tribe of Celts, who in the early Iron Age north of the Po, so called by the Romans in Cisalpine Gaul territory, settled. The tribal territory was in this case limited to the west by the Ticino, on the east by Serio. Celtic neighboring tribes were in the West Taurini, in the east, the Boii and Lingones, to the North Lepontier, while in the south lived the Ligurians and were pushed back by the Celts towards the coast. Main place of Insubri was Mediolanum, now Milan.

The immigration took place around 400 BC, when the area was ruled by the Etruscans. Under Roman rule the Po Valley became the Celtic war in Northern Italy in the years 223/222 BC, but the Roman supremacy was shattered when the Carthaginians v. Chr.das area traversed under Hannibal 218. After the victory in the Punic Wars, the Romans succeeded but to renew their rule in Cisalpine Gaul in the year 194 BC. The Insubres were given in 49 BC, the Roman citizenship; since 42 BC, scored her territory to Italy.
