Integrated Facility for Linux

Integrated Facility for Linux ( IFL short ) is a special-purpose processor for IBM mainframe (System z) and IBM Power Systems. On System z only the operating systems are z / VM, Linux, and since November 2008, OpenSolaris running.

The advantage of this solution is that the royalties of the software that is licensed under z / OS, is not affected by the additional processor.

On IBM Power Systems can be run on the IFL processor Linux only. For IFLs different prices for hardware and IBM software than for standard processors that AIX can run apply.
